Answer to IELTS Cambridge Book 6 Test 1 General Writing Task 2
It is argued that it would be commendable if schools taught their students how to become a good mother or father at a young age. I totally disagree with this point of view because it will burden students more. The skill sets essential to be a good parent are patience and problem-solving skills.
The primary reason I do not agree that schools should take on the role of teaching young students about parenting is because it will overwhelm minors. Children already have a lot of core subjects to study, and if an additional subject is added to the curriculum, they will have to spend more time on their studies. Due to this, they will not have enough free time to de-stress and enjoy their childhood. For example, in India, young students who study a foreign language as an additional subject usually score less in maths and science than those who do not study it, and a similar outcome can be expected if students are taught about parenting. Therefore, it should be left to their families to teach them when they become old enough to understand this topic.
The main skill that a person should have to be a good parent is patience. This is because in addition to their daily stress of the job and providing for their family, parents have to deal with the mischief of their offspring, so it becomes pretty important that instead of losing their cool, they should sit down and guide their young ones with affection and love. Another crucial skill is problem-solving ability. Sometimes, a parent needs to think outside the box to teach children because their child may not understand something using traditional methods. Therefore, being able to think critically and rationally can make children understand the topic and teach them the importance of this skill, which might help them when they become parents. For instance, if a child dislikes vegetables, then instead of scolding them, parents can use various methods or games to convince their child to eat their veggies, which can be more effective and long-lasting.
In conclusion, this essay completely disagrees that school is an excellent place to teach young people about parenting because it will just put extra burden on them. The skills needed to be a good mother and father are patience and problem-solving capabilities.
