Answer to IELTS Cambridge Book 15 Test 4 General Writing Task 2
In numerous nations, the use of a cellphone to make a payment using an app is becoming more and more popular. Although the primary negative of mobile transactions is impulsive buying, this essay argues that the benefits outweigh the drawbacks because of the convenience this provides.
On the one hand, the main disadvantage of paying for a purchase using mobile phone apps is the risk of theft. This is because the information used to make payments is stored on the internet, and unethical people can misuse it to steal money from a person’s bank account without their knowledge. For example, online payment apps store their customer’s bank details and phone number for online transactions, which are shared with the shopkeeper while transferring money, and hackers can hack their numbers and withdraw money. However, I think setting stronger passwords can easily overcome this disadvantage, so the pros far outweigh the cons.
On the other hand, the chief benefit of this trend is that mobile application usage has proved to be convenient when it comes to paying for something. Individuals do not need to carry cash or go to an ATM when they want to go shopping and run out of cash, as they can just use their phone, which they will already have with them, to pay for things. For example, by using mobile wallets like GPay or PayTm, a person can pay bills such as electricity and groceries just by scanning the seller’s code, and they can directly link these apps with the banks for instant transactions. Since it makes the shopping experience more pleasurable, I believe using mobile devices to buy things is significantly more advantageous.
In conclusion, even though there is a danger of theft when transacting money via mobile phone apps, I think the convenience it offers means that the positives outweigh the negatives.
