Question –

WRITING TASK 1

You should spend 20 minutes on this task.

You work for an international company, and would like to spend six months working in its head office in another country.

Write a letter to your manager. In your letter:

  • explain why you want to work in the company’s head office for six months
  • say how your work could be done while you are away
  • ask for his/her help in arranging it

Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear _________,

Answer –

Dear Mr Smith,

I am writing this letter to express my strong interest in working in our company’s headquarters in the USA for half a year.

I would like to work there for a 6-month period because I think this would be sufficient time to learn about new projects that our company is going to launch here in India. As I am head of the project management department, having in-depth knowledge of them becomes that more important, and after learning about them, I can train my staff accordingly. It will help to complete these projects efficiently and on time, thus increasing our profits.

I have already discussed this with my team and they are more than happy to take over my responsibilities while I am in the US. In my absence, my duties will be delegated to John, and I will stay in touch with him on the call and via the Internet to make sure that the work is being carried out as expected.

I kindly request your assistance in arranging this opportunity for me. I will need a letter of recommendation from your side because this arrangement can only take place if you initiate this process. I know this would put extra strain on our company’s finances, but I am positive that the results will be fruitful and profitable in the long run.

Thank you for your consideration.

Yours sincerely,
Tom Cruise
