IELTS Cambridge Book 17 Test 1 GT – Letter

Question –

WRITING TASK 1

You should spend 20 minutes on this task.

Your English-speaking friend who lives in your town has asked for your advice about learning a new sport.

Write an email to your friend. In your letter:

  • recommend a new sport that would be suitable for your friend to learn
  • explain how your friend could learn this sport
  • suggest that you both learn this sport together

You should write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear __________,

Answer –

Dear Sam,

I’m just writing to give you my opinion on the type of sport you should go for.

If I were you, I’d learn cricket. I am suggesting this particular sport to you because you are quite athletic and agile, so you’ll be able to take to this game like a duck to water. Also, this sport is not that expensive, as the cricket kit and gear are affordable, and the coaching fee is pocket-friendly, too.

As far as learning this sport goes, there are many top-notch academies in our town itself, so you won’t have to go anywhere far. The most suitable coaching institute for you would be “Turning Stars into Superstars”, which is not only just a stone’s throw away from your home but is also run by a former World Cup winner, Kapil Dev. Since his English is impeccable, language won’t be an issue.

I wondered why we shouldn’t try our hand at this sport simultaneously, as I have been thinking of learning this game for a long time, but I constantly put it off for one reason or another. Also, learning it together will allow us to help each other get better at it because having a partner by your side while learning something new is always advantageous.

Keep in touch,

Jim
