Answer to IELTS Cambridge Book 19 Test 2 General Writing Task 2
People sometimes pay others to carry out tasks, such as household chores or childcare, that they do not either prefer to do or have enough time to do themselves. This can be a good way to create job opportunities for those who rely on such work for survival, and I believe such work should be done by individuals from time to time as it creates affinity.
Delegating work you don’t want to do or do not have time to do to others is beneficial to generate jobs because not all people have degrees or intellect to do high-level jobs. To explain, many people worldwide cannot afford tertiary education, so they have to do jobs with meagre salaries to make both ends meet. If these job opportunities are not available to them, they will not be able to survive. For example, many underprivileged people often do work like babysitting or mowing lawns as their primary source of income.
Nevertheless, I believe people should do these types of work at least sometimes as it can give them a sense of belongingness. If people spend some time with their children, they will feel more connected and not only form a meaningful relationship with them but also instil good habits in them. (This would also benefit children as they can learn the difference between right and wrong.) Moreover, doing chores at their home could make them more responsible about things and appreciate what they have. Many working people, for instance, often reserve a day in a week to spend some quality time with their children and teach them some valuable life lessons.
In conclusion, although paying others to do the household work that you don’t want to do can be advantageous for those working in such industries, I would argue that it would be constructive if people babysat and cleaned their own houses once in a while because it can make them feel attached.
