Official IELTS Writing Band Descriptors

🎯 Task Response (Task 2) / Achievement (Task 1)
This measures how well you answered the question. Did you address all parts of the prompt? Is your position clear throughout the essay?
🔗 Coherence and Cohesion
This assesses your organization. Are your ideas logically sequenced? Do you use linking words (connectors) naturally without overusing them?
🔤 Lexical Resource
This is your vocabulary score. Examiners look for a wide range of words, correct collocations, and very rare spelling errors.
⚖️ Grammatical Range and Accuracy
To hit Band 7+, you need a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Accuracy in punctuation and tenses is critical here.
