Answer to IELTS Cambridge Book 13 Test 1 General Writing Task 2

In certain regions of America, parents do not allow their teenage offspring to leave the house after a specific time at night if they are not going with an adult. I completely support this stance, as it is unsafe for young people to be out late at night, and many tend to make irresponsible decisions.

Adolescents should remain indoors at night for their safety. During night-time, criminal activities often increase as the cover of darkness makes it more difficult for law enforcement to monitor the streets, thus making it less safe than during the day. Due to their physical and psychological vulnerability, children can become easy targets for such perpetrators, who might lure them into dangerous behaviours like taking drugs or drinking alcohol. For instance, in Mexico, drug dealers are frequently seen selling drugs openly on the streets at night, tempting many teenagers to try it for fun.

Moreover, the limited experience of most teenagers often leads to poor decision-making. At this age, they are prone to impulsive actions without thoroughly considering the consequences. Unlike adults, they lack the experience required to make sound judgments, which can sometimes result in severe consequences. Therefore, enforcing a rule that prevents teenagers from going out alone after a particular time at night is a sensible measure. For example, unauthorized street car racing, predominantly involving teenagers, is common in Delhi, India, during the late hours and has proven fatal for participants on several occasions.

In conclusion, this essay strongly agrees that youngsters should be restricted from going out late at night for their safety and to prevent them from making reckless decisions.
