Answer to IELTS Cambridge Book 10 Test 2 General Writing Task 2
Several parents purchase an abundance of toys for their sons and daughters. The benefits of this are that children do not get bored, and it helps develop their imaginations. However, being careless and less sociable are the drawbacks of having many items to play with.
The prime benefit of possessing numerous toys is that minors are not easily bored. That is to say that if they are playing and get bored with one particular type of toy, they can pick another one and continue enjoying themselves. The fact that it could develop their ingenuity is also one of the merits of this phenomenon. When children have various toys to play with, they need to come up with new and different stories to play with them, and this stimulates their capacity to imagine distinct realities. For instance, many children enter their fantasy world and create their version of reality while playing with Barbie dolls and action figures such as Superman, Spider-Man and Iron Man.
The main drawback of providing children with a lot of toys is that it can make them unappreciative of what they have. If such juveniles break a toy, they have no remorse as there are more than enough options to replace it. Another disadvantage is that such children can become anti-social. In other words, they may interact less with family members, friends and other people around them because they prefer to spend time with their toys. For instance, children with numerous toys tend not to go out to play with their friends, often find themselves isolated, and develop communication problems when they grow up.
In conclusion, a few fathers and mothers buy numerous toys for their offspring who are under 18 because this helps their children to deal with boredom and enhance their creativity, while becoming ungrateful and not socialising are its downsides.
