WRITING TASK 1

You should spend 20 minutes on this task.

You work at home and have a problem with a piece of equipment that you use for your job.

Write a letter to the shop or company which supplied the equipment. In your letter,

  • describe the problem with the equipment
  • explain how this problem is affecting your work
  • say what you want the shop or company to do

Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Answer –

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to complain about the malfunctioning of the video camera that I purchased from your shop last week for attending my meetings online while at home.

The problem that I am facing is that the image quality of the camera is not up to the mark. That is to say, when I video call my colleagues, they sometimes cannot see me clearly and, sometimes, the image freezes. Other times, all they see is the black screen, although my voice is audible. I have tried to clean the lens many times and reboot my laptop again and again, but the problem persists.

It is impacting my work in the worst way imaginable, as due to this, I am not able to coordinate with my team and our work is suffering as a result. Many projects are being delayed and it is causing a lot of trouble for my company and clients. Consequently, this has led to not only monetary losses but also my reputation being tarnished.

I want my problem to be solved on a priority basis either by you or the company. I want to replace my camera urgently because after 2 days, I have an all-important meeting with one of our international clients, and I cannot afford to fumble it due to the camera issues.

I await your prompt service.

Best regards,
Michael Jordan
