Question –

WRITING TASK 1

You should spend 20 minutes on this task.

You recently received a letter from a friend asking for advice about whether to go to college or to try to get a job. You think he/she should get a job.

Write a letter to this friend. In your letter:

  • say why he/she would not enjoy going to college
  • explain why getting a job is a good idea for him/her
  • suggest types of job that would be suitable for him/her

Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear _________,

Answer –

Dear Leo,

I’m just writing to suggest that it’d be much better if you got a job and dropped the idea of going to college for your own sake.

I don’t think that you’d like going to college even for a second because there is nothing new to see and learn that you haven’t studied before. So, you’d be bored to death as the majority chunk of your study will consist of theoretical knowledge only and you won’t have too many practicals.

However, getting a job would be a more sensible idea because you can bail out your dad from the ongoing financial crisis. You can be his helping hand and your support would be invaluable. Also, by doing a job, you can gain invaluable experience that will help you to get better job opportunities in the future.

I believe the best job for you would be as an accountant. This post is tailor-made for you because you’ve studied for a 1-year diploma in this field, and you are good with numbers, too, so you’d love it. Alternatively, you could look for a manager’s post as you’ve fabulous leadership abilities, and you can also make others raise their performance to the next level.

Say hello to the family!

All the best,
Toby
