  • explain why you want to get a part time job
  • suggest how your friend could help you find a job.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear _________,

Answer –

Dear Jim,

I’m just writing to tell you that I’m coming to New York to pursue my master’s and I’d like your help finding a part-time job.

I’ll be doing a 1-year post-graduation at Columbia University in NYC and the course will start in September during the fall. I’ll be studying Medical Physics, with a speciality in Radiation Therapy. It is quite a complex course in which they will teach me how to calibrate radiotherapy units, develop therapeutic techniques, and ensure the safe and effective delivery of radiation as prescribed in patient care.

As for the part-time job, I’m going to need it to cover my living expenses and rent while I’m studying. As you know, New York City is quite expensive, and I don’t want to be a burden on my parents, so I need to do it to manage my finances. Doing a job will also give me a real-life experience of the world, and I’ll be better prepared when I step out into the field.

I’d be grateful if you could send me a list of websites on which I can find a suitable job. Also, would it be possible for you to suggest my name to the company you work in? As you’ve been working there for a long time, your word will definitely help my case in getting a part-time job.

I hope to see you soon!
