Answer to IELTS Cambridge Book 18 Test 1 General Writing Task 2
A few individuals argue that working for a big organisation is more advantageous than a small one. I completely agree with this statement because of job security and career growth.
Working in multi-million dollar companies is more beneficial because workers can get job security. This is because these companies have strong foundations and are well established, as they have a lot of funding at their disposal and are less susceptible to facing economic turbulence, and as a result, they can have peace of mind. However, in small companies, these advantages are missing, and usually, they are the ones to shut their operations during any economic downturn. During the COVID-19 pandemic, for example, many small businesses were forced to shut down and lay off their employees as they could not pay their salaries, but this was not the case with multinational companies as they survived this disaster.
Another reason to consider is career advancement opportunities. Since these large organisations employ several hundreds and sometimes thousands of people, there are more positions to fill than at much smaller companies with employees in single or double digits. This means that there are more chances to gain promotions as well as learn new things as one person may have to handle different portfolios, which would help them widen their horizon and improve their career prospects. For instance, Amazon, Apple, and Google have offices in other countries, and for that, they need people to fulfil different roles, which gives their employees chances to get promoted either vertically or horizontally in their respective careers.
In conclusion, I totally agree that being employed at large corporations offers more benefits than working for smaller enterprises because it can provide job stability and professional development.
