Canada Study Visa – Checklist

Canada Study Visa checklist helps you to prepare the file professionally without missing out on key details and securing the visa on the first attempt.

Many students are often conned when they go to any unauthorised agent who has no empathy and only treats his clients as cash cows. Since we are in the Study Visa Business, we have met many people whose files got refusals because their agents were careless or had a half-baked knowledge or they had done wrong filing.

Such things can be avoided easily. Voxcel has a nearly 100% Canada Study Visa success rate and we don’t mean strong files; we mean weak profiles that have been refused earlier once or multiple times.

The purpose of writing this post is to educate the students who are looking to secure their study visa for a Canadian College or a university. However, the process is the same for any institution, except Sx1 visa.

Before proceeding, please know that the Canada Study Visa was divided into SDS (Student Direct Stream) and Non-SDS. However, IRCC closed the SDS category including Nigerian Student Express with immediate effect on Nov. 8, 2024, and brought the Canada Study Visa under the General Category or Non-SDS.

Below are the countries that were impacted by the changes:

  1. Antigua and Barbuda
  2. Brazil
  3. China
  4. Colombia
  5. Costa Rica
  6. India
  7. Morocco
  8. Pakistan
  9. Peru
  10. Philippines
  11. Senegal
  12. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
  13. Trinidad and Tobago
  14. Vietnam

Since it’s now fair and square for everyone globally to make it to Canada through Study Permit, let’s see what documents you would need to successfully lodge your profile.

Unlike SDS, Now GIC is not mandatory and paying a full-year tuition fee to lodge the visa is also not mandatory. However, the visa success ratio by lodging the file with these things is another topic to discuss.

  • Scanned copies of the first and last pages of the passport, including all the stamped pages. If you have an expired passport, provide the same for it, too.
  • Birth Certificate (in English). If it’s in your native language, translate it to English and provide both copies. original as well as translated.

  • Valid Letter of acceptance (LOA) from an institution having a DLI number showing the planned start and end date of the program including an attestation letter from the province. For a master’s program, you don’t need a PAL letter, but for Post Graduation Diploma or Graduate Certificate Programs, you need a PAL letter.
  • IELTS test results from within the last 24 months and an overall score of at least 6.0 bands. The same goes for any of the other accepted tests such as PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT, CAEL etc. However, for better visa chances, consider going for Band 6 in each module with a 6 overall minimum for undergraduate courses and 6 bands in each module minimum with a 6.5 band overall for PG courses.
  • Recent Education Qualification along with all the individual mark sheets with a provisional degree if not final degree certificate.
  • Backlog certificate for bachelor’s and master’s students. (Mandatory)
  • Letter of Recommendation and Medium of Instruction (Not Mandatory but can attach if available)
  • Tuition fee payment receipts issued by the Canadian educational institution. Pre-payment of first-year fees is mandatory. Swift copies only will not work and can be a reason for refusal. If the college doesn’t provide official receipts, you can take a screenshot of the payment confirmation from the institution or use Flywire Receipts. They are accepted.
  • Guaranteed Investment Certificate of CAD 20,635 excluding CAD 150 Band Fee + CAD 25 Remittance Charges. (Mandatory). Quebec has a GIC certificate amount requirement of CAD 15,078. You can read more about Embassy Fees and GIC here. (Optional but Highly Recommended)
  • Proof of upfront completion of medical examination from an empanelled doctor. Check the list of the Panel of Physicians on the IRCC Website
  • If a student is applying to study at an institution in Quebec, then a CAQ (Quebec). An acceptance Certificate will also be required for which a separate application online needs to be made.
  • Proof of Funds such as ITRS (Income Tax Returns), Bank Statements, Property Valuation Reports and C.A. Reports are secondary under SDS. Such documents don’t hurt if you attach them to SDS filing, but they are not mandatory.
  • An original Statement of Purpose covering the details about you, your family, your previous education, experience, skills, why you chose Canada and the particular at the particular institution. Be original and natural. Don’t copy the contents from any online source. Canada employs A.I. software and they can detect plagiarism instantly.

In addition to all the above, the below-mentioned documents are required for filing a visa for if GIC is not paid.
