You should spend 20 minutes on this task.
You have just read an article in a national newspaper which claims that town centres in your country all look very similar to each other. You don’t fully agree with this opinion.
Write a letter to the editor of the newspaper. In your letter:
- say which points in the article you agree with
- explain ways in which your town centre is different from most other town centres
- offer to give a guided tour of your town to the writer of the article
Write at least 150 words.
You do NOT need to write any addresses.

I am writing this letter in response to an article in your esteemed newspaper titled “Homogenization of Town Centres across the Country” on 1st May 2024.
I agree that modern town centres are similar in some ways because they often have international fast food chains, brand stores and big shopping complexes, with smaller parking lots than they require. Moreover, the rent of shops is sky high compared to the rest of the places in town, and therefore, local businesses stay away from these places.
However, Ludhiana’s town centre is nothing like that. Firstly, we have managed to preserve some of our old buildings from the 19th century, and we also have some art galleries and art shops, where local artists can showcase their talent and sell their products. Furthermore, our town centre is pedestrianised, meaning people can enjoy shopping while strolling freely. We also have planted trees on the roadside so that people can feel connected to nature.
It would be my pleasure to give the author of this article a complete personal guided tour of my city’s town centre, so they can witness the uniqueness that Ludhiana’s town centre has to offer. Perhaps, a firsthand experience could provide a more nuanced perspective for future articles.
