Question –

WRITING TASK 1

You should spend 20 minutes on this task.

You have just read an article in an international travel magazine which contained some information about your town that is incorrect.

Write a letter to the editor of the magazine. In your letter:

  • correct the information in the article
  • explain why it is important for the magazine to give correct information
  • suggest what the magazine should do about this situation

Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Answer –

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to bring to your attention some inaccuracies about my hometown, Ludhiana, in one of the articles, “The Museum”, published in your esteemed magazine for international travellers on 1st May 2024.

The main piece of misinformation I want to correct is that in the article, the author wrote that Ludhiana’s museum is solely focused on maritime history and has many exhibits displaying the same. However, our museum boasts a diverse collection from local art to geology, and there is even a section dedicated to the freedom fighters of my town.

Accurate information is of the utmost importance for the travellers and your magazine’s credibility. This is because many travellers who like to visit other countries rely on your magazine to make informed decisions and due to this error, they will miss out on the museum’s hidden gems. Not only that, this will impact the revenue of the museum and the livelihood of local people, too.

To rectify this situation, I recommend you publish a new article with a correction note in the next available issue so your readers can know the correct information. Additionally, you should instruct your travel writers to rely on reliable sources and double-check their information from the government websites or ask concerned institutions.

Yours faithfully,
Dave Bautista
