WRITING TASK 1

You should spend 20 minutes on this task.

You have recently bought a piece of equipment for your kitchen but it did not work. You phoned the shop but no action was taken.

Write a letter to the shop manager. In your letter:

  • describe the problem with the equipment
  • explain what happened when you phoned the shop
  • say what you would like the manager to do

Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Answer –

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the functioning of a microwave I purchased last Sunday and, more importantly, with one of your staff members’ behaviour, as my request fell on deaf ears.

One of the issues I am facing is that the food does not heat, no matter how long I keep it in the microwave. Additionally, the touchpad is not working satisfactorily. Sometimes, I have to press a button several times before it responds, and frankly, it is quite frustrating.

When I called your shop 2 days ago, I was left disappointed by the experience because firstly, I had to wait for 20 odd minutes before someone answered my call, and when a staff member of yours did attend it and I told her my problem, she was extremely rude and even started the blame game. After that, when I told her about the bill and guarantee, she said she would send someone to fix it, but I have not heard from anyone until now.

I recommend that you teach your staff how to deal with customers politely and warn the lady in question sternly. Moreover, I would appreciate it if you sent a technician to solve the issues or replace my product with a new one.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Michael Jackson
