Answer to IELTS Cambridge Book 9 Test 2 General Writing Task 2
It is argued by some that a majority of individuals are the happiest in their teenage, while others believe that people enjoy adulthood more despite having to shoulder more responsibilities. Although some say the adolescent years are the happiest period because they can spend more time on leisure activities, I would argue that being an adult is a more enjoyable experience because people can do what they truly want to do.
On the one hand, certain people are of the view that people feel most jubilant in their teens as they can spend an enormous amount of time having fun. To explain, youngsters do not have any severe responsibilities other than studying at this age, so they mostly spend time enjoying and creating memories with their friends. Therefore, most people are usually nostalgic when remembering these days later in life. For example, most people went to clubs, trekking or camping by themselves for the first time when they were 15 or 16. However, I believe that humans are naive at this age and do not understand the true meaning of happiness until later in life.
On the other hand, others believe that adults are happier than young people irrespective of more responsibilities because they can decide what they want to do. That is to say that, unlike adolescents, grown-ups do not have to get permission from their parents or anyone to pursue what they desire. In spite of having responsibilities towards their parents, spouse, and children, they have money to complete their childhood dreams, which gives them immense pleasure, which even words cannot express. Many adults, for instance, are first in line to buy a PS5, which they could not afford in their childhood, and they play it to their heart’s content. Since earning things you want can give you real happiness, I would argue adult life brings more joy.
In conclusion, even though certain humans consider young age to be the happiest time in most people’s lives as they can spend time playing games, I am of the opinion that middle age is a more pleasurable period because people can follow their passions without any interference.
