Answer to IELTS Cambridge Book 8 Test 1 General Writing Task 2
Nowadays, people travel more than they did at any time. The main reason for this trend is that it is now cheaper to travel, and the main advantages for the traveller are that they can be exposed to different cultures and experience new adventures.
The primary reason individuals are travelling more than ever is that it has become more economical. Due to the emergence of new travel companies, there is cut-throat competition in the travel industry; therefore, to survive and attract more customers, the companies have lowered their profit margins. A similar thing happened to the hotel industry as well, making not only travel fares but also staying at other paces affordable, tempting even those people to explore new places, who never thought of it before due to their financial constraints. MakeMyTrip, a travel company, for example, provides the cheapest domestic flights and its tie-ups with hotels at most tourist hotspots give Indian tourists irresistible offers.
One of the prime benefits of travelling for the traveller is the chance to experience new cultures. When people travel to new places, either within their country or overseas, they can learn about the people and traditions of that particular place and try their authentic food, an experience that only reading about it cannot give. Another upside of this is that vacationers can try new adventurous activities. Many places have some unique geographical advantage that makes them stand out from the rest, and specific activities can be done only at such places, which tourists might not be able to do in their hometowns. For instance, many Indians visit Dubai to see the underwater zoo and the desert safari, both unavailable in India.
In conclusion, the principal reason why travelling has become the most popular in its history is that its overall cost has decreased. The merits that travellers can get out from travelling to other places are the knowledge of new cultures and trying new exciting activities.
