Answer to IELTS Cambridge Book 17 Test 3 General Writing Task 2
It is often argued that it is more beneficial to purchase a handful of high-priced clothing items instead of a larger number of inexpensive clothes. I completely agree with this statement because such clothes are long-lasting and trendsetters.
The main reason I am in favour of buying highly-priced garments is because of their durability. This is because they are made up of superior-quality raw materials, which often last much longer than cheaper ones. As a result, people who buy such clothes do not need to buy them as frequently as they would have to buy local products, thus saving them both money and time that they otherwise would have to spend on shopping and can do something more productive in that time. For example, although a pair of shoes from Adidas costs significantly more than a local company’s pair, they last longer than ordinary ones.
Another reason to consider is that more expensive clothes are more often than not trendier. To explain, world-famous fashion designers or celebrities usually run brands, and whenever they launch a new creation or collection, it attracts the attention of their fans as they want to get their hands on the apparel that their favourite star is wearing or endorsing, creating a buzz in the fashion industry, which people follow en masse. Famous Bollywood stars, such as Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai, for instance, have their own line of clothing, and even though they are pretty expensive, these sell like hotcakes as these popular personalities are looked upon as fashion icons in India.
In conclusion, I totally agree that having fewer but more expensive outfits in one’s wardrobe is better than possessing a lot of cheaper clothes because these clothes will serve them for a more extended period and are often more stylish.
