Answer to IELTS Cambridge Book 13 Test 4 General Writing Task 2

It is argued by some that it is essential to keep one’s home and work area in order, with all things arranged and in their proper place. I completely agree with that statement because maintaining a well-ordered house and workplace helps people save time and creates a pleasant environment.

People should organise things properly in the workplace and at home because of the time this habit of theirs can save. If things people need daily are stored at a particular place every time after being used, it will make it far easier and quicker for individuals to find their belongings whenever they need those things instead of finding them all over the place, saving both time and effort. Those who always keep their keys and wallets in one place in their homes or offices, for example, find them without delay even when they are in a hurry, saving them from the unnecessary stress of being late to their offices in the morning.

Another important reason for developing this habit is the pleasing environment it yields. This is because when everything is kept tidy at home and place of work, it might make people feel relaxed as some find messy spaces to be distracting, creating feelings of anxiety or restlessness among them, whereas a clutter-free space can make them relaxed which not only increases their efficiency but also leaves a good impression on guests, co-workers or clients. For instance, many successful entrepreneurs often mention their habit of being tidy as the main reason they could work for longer hours at work and even after returning home to become what they are today.

In conclusion, I believe that tidying things away at home and work is vital, as this can help save time and create an enjoyable working environment.
