Answer of Cambridge Book 9 Test 2 Academic Writing Task 2
Some individuals think that community service, such as volunteering for a charity, enhancing the local area, or coaching sports to younger children, and that, too, without any pay, should be a mandatory part of the high school curriculum. I completely agree with this idea because this work can help students learn that money is not everything and such extracurricular activities could better prepare them for work.
The main reason I am in favour of including free voluntary services in secondary school programs is because it can help students learn that money is not the most important thing in life. By doing so, they will understand that some things are to be done as it is our moral responsibility to give back to society. This will help them become selfless, develop empathy towards less fortunate people, and make them more careful about their surroundings. For example, many people who took part in charitable events are more compassionate and willing to help needy people than those who did not do such work in their school days.
Another benefit of community service for high schoolers is that such work would give them real-world work experience. If they take care of old people or train someone younger than them, it can provide them with invaluable experience in dealing with customers of different age groups. As a result, they will not be overwhelmed and able to handle customers when it is finally their chance to enter the workforce. Many successful executives in multi-billion dollar companies, for instance, have credited their success to the people skills they acquired during their adolescence doing such kind of work.
In conclusion, teenage students should be made to partake in unpaid community work as part of their schooling because it will help them learn the importance of values over money and be better prepared for working life.
