Answer of Cambridge Book 8 Test 1 Academic Writing Task 2
It is argued by some individuals that it is the responsibility of parents to teach their children how to become good citizens, while others are of the view that school is the optimal place for instilling such values. Although parents could pay individual attention to their offspring, I believe that schools offer a more conducive environment for such development.
On the one hand, some say parents can be the best teachers to teach about ethics as they can give their undivided attention to their wards. In other words, mothers and fathers understand their children better, and they could develop some teaching methods that are tailor-made for their young ones through which minors can learn easily. During bedtime, for example, parents can tell their offspring stories such as a thirsty crow that can teach them morals. However, I think not all parents are equipped to teach their children independently, and some have time constraints as they work to provide for their families.
On the other hand, others argue that educational centres provide a better environment for children to learn about becoming upstanding members of society. Schools have teachers who are specifically trained to teach students, and they can also learn people skills and civic responsibility through interactions with peers. If they do not conduct themselves properly, teachers can teach them how to do so. In Indian schools, for instance, teachers usually tell students to help each other, be polite and share their lunch boxes and notes so that they can grow up to be compassionate adults. Since students can see others and learn in real time, in my opinion, this approach is preferable to the previous one.
In conclusion, even though parents can effectively demonstrate moral conduct to their children as they have to focus on them only, I consider that learning principles at schools makes more sense because such places can provide an ideal atmosphere for children to learn to become productive community members.
