Question: Universities should accept equal numbers of male and female students in every subject. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Answer of Cambridge Book 5 Test 1 Academic Writing Task 2
Universities should enrol the same number of students of both genders in each subject. I totally disagree with this viewpoint because admissions should be based on interest and grades.
The primary reason I am not in favour of accepting an equal number of male and female students in every subject is because students choose subjects according to their interests. Typically, pupils enrol in those subjects in third-level education, where they have a firm grip or can make a bright future. However, if colleges decide to fix the seats based on gender, it will deprive students of studying what they truly want, and it can harm their mental health if they are forced to study subjects they do not like. Universities, too, may face financial losses if students do not take admissions due to the implementation of such regulations. For example, in India, male engineers tend to choose civil, electrical and mechanical engineering subjects, whereas female students prefer electronics, computer science and IT subjects.
Another reason to consider is that applicants should be selected according to their academic grades. By doing so, universities can pick the most deserving candidates with not only higher intellects but also capable of completing their tertiary education and forming a competent workforce. If proficient students are not selected just because of their gender, they will go to foreign countries to make their careers, and their native country will be deprived of their services, and maybe some of them go on to make groundbreaking discoveries or find cures for cancer that their countries could have used for their people. In the Japanese tertiary educational system, for example, most high school graduates take university entrance exams, and only those who pass the exams can enter university without any gender bias.
In conclusion, I completely disagree that universities should accept the same proportion of male and female students in each subject, as some courses have either more female or male applicants, and universities should choose students in accordance with their grades.
