Answer of Cambridge Book 4 Test 4 Academic Writing Task 2  

Problematic behaviour among school students has become a matter of grave concern in many nations. The reasons for this are that students feel left out while studying in class and a lack of parental involvement. However, plausible solutions are that schools could create an inclusive curriculum and that parents should be more involved in their children’s lives.

Schools are encountering issues with students’ behaviour mainly due to the lack of student-teacher engagement. When teachers teach, students usually have to sit passively and listen. Therefore, when pupils do not understand the subject or concepts being taught, they feel disconnected and bored, leading to behavioural problems. Moreover, the declining involvement of parents is exacerbating the concern. Nowadays, with both parents often working to provide a better life for their offspring, they may neglect their primary responsibility of instilling moral values and teaching their child the distinction between right and wrong behaviour. In India, for example, a higher percentage of schools in metropolitan areas report problems with student behaviours, rather than in villages or tier 2 and 3 cities, where both parents are less likely to work full-time.

A possible solution to curb boredom is designing a curriculum encouraging student participation. If students were engaged more while studying, such as by holding interactive and problem-solving sessions, they would be more willing to sit through classes and learn, as they would not feel neglected but a part of the class instead. Another solution is that parents should be more involved in their children’s lives. By doing so, they can teach their children proper behaviour, as children often emulate their parents. For instance, it is often observed that children who spend more time with their parents are often well-behaved when they go out in public.

In conclusion, the issue with behavioural discipline amongst students at school can be credited to the passive study format and parental neglect. To overcome these challenges, schools should provide interactive learning experiences to students, and to teach their children appropriate behaviour, parents should spend more time with them.
