Answer of Cambridge Book 3 Test 3 Academic Writing Task 2ย ย

In numerous places, minors are paid to do various works. Some argue that this is ethically wrong, whereas others view it as beneficial, as it teaches them responsibility and about working life. Although this can reduce minor study time, I completely agree with the latter that working at a young age is better because it can teach them the value of money, which is an essential trait.

The argument people make against children working for money is that it can negatively affect their academic scores. This is because they will have to dedicate time in their workplaces, which could be used to study, and when they come back to their homes after work, they will be tired and may not be able to concentrate properly on their studies, adversely affecting their academic performance. In India, for example, children who work often score lower grades than those who do not. Despite this, I would argue that in the real world, grades do not matter that much if competitors have the same level of qualification, but work experience can make all the difference.

On the other hand, doing a part-time job can help them understand the importance of money. Through work, they will get to know how hard it is to earn money, so they will be more cautious not to spend it on unnecessary things, and instead, they would like to either save or invest their hard-earned money. This habit of theirs would help them to be more focused not only in their classroom but also in their adulthood when they become the head of their family. For instance, many parents encourage their teenagers to work on the weekends to learn the value of money because they also learnt this way. Therefore, I consider this to be way more significant to be overlooked, and if children and parents are careful, this experience will not impact their studies at all.

In conclusion, even though some fear that if children are made to work, they may not pay the required attention to studies, this essay firmly believes that it is much better if they start working at a young age, as it will help them to be not only wise with their money but also more disciplined with their education.
