Answer of Cambridge Book 17 Test 1 Academic Writing Task 2
It is considered a good idea to take risks, both in one’s career and private life. Although the drawback of taking risks is the likelihood of setbacks, I believe the positives outweigh the negatives because tremendous success might be achieved through risk-taking.
On the one hand, the principal negative of taking risks is the possibility of failure. In other words, stepping out of one’s comfort zone always carries uncertainty, and things may not go as planned. If people face setbacks, they often become disheartened, as they have had attached high hopes, and it can make them question their abilities, dent their confidence and even discourage them from taking future risks. In some cases, overcoming the stress of failure may even require years of therapy. Many workers, for example, take risks and leave their jobs to start their businesses, and despite their best efforts, not all ventures thrive, leading to financial difficulties and the need to start over. However, I would argue that failure is a natural part of growth and can be mitigated by taking the required precautions.
The primary advantage of taking risks is that unimaginable success can be achieved. By pushing beyond their comfort zones and taking chances, no matter how slim they are, individuals can learn, grow, and realize their true potential, and as a result, they may succeed in unlikely places. For instance, starting a business involves financial risk and uncertainty but can bring great rewards and fulfilment if it becomes successful. Similarly, taking risks in relationships by expressing feelings or making commitments can lead to deep connections and emotional satisfaction. Since taking risks allows people to challenge themselves, overcome obstacles, and achieve remarkable accomplishments they may have never thought possible, I think its advantages are substantial.
In conclusion, even though the downside of taking chances is that there is always a chance of failure, it opens the door to remarkable achievements and phenomenal success. For these reasons, I consider that the pros for risk-takers far outnumber the cons.
