Answer of Cambridge Book 15 Test 2 Academic Writing Task 2
It is argued that in the future, people might be able to read anything they want digitally and for free, leading to a decline in the purchase of physical newspapers or books. I completely disagree with this statement because of the internet’s availability issues, and some people will still prefer the unique experience that paper books provide.
The main reason I disagree that people would be able to get any book online they need for free, so they will not buy print, is the unavailability of the internet in some places. That is to say that the internet would not likely reach every part of the world, and there will still be areas deprived of this facility, either due to geographical locations or economic conditions. Hence, people living in such areas will rely on paper books, even if the e-books would not cost them even a penny. For example, having such facilities in many remote areas and hill stations is extremely rare due to mountains, and this situation will persist even in the coming years.
Another reason is that many readers will still prioritize the experience that print provides. Many readers prefer the tactile sensation of holding a book and the smell of a new book and its ink. All this can make the reading experience more pleasurable and immersive, which is impossible if someone reads on their mobile phone, tablet or computer. For instance, a majority of avid readers prefer to sit by their bedside, turning the pages of their favourite novel while having a cup of tea or coffee, and this preference is likely to persist.
To conclude, I totally disagree that newspapers or books will become obsolete just because individuals can read everything online for free because not all places can be made internet-friendly, and many individuals may still favour the distinct experience that physical books provide.
