Answer of Cambridge Book 15 Test 1 Academic Writing Task 2
In many nations, homeownership is more important than staying in a rented home. This is because many feel owning a home is a better investment for the future; however, I do not believe this is advantageous because it reduces a person’s freedom.
The main reason why some people prefer to buy their own home is that they believe it to be a safe investment. That is to say that these people believe that the amount of money that they put into buying the house would increase with time, as often seen traditionally, or at least remain the same. Therefore, if they need money in the future, they could either sell their house or mortgage it in the case of an emergency or fund their retirement, which is not possible in the case of rented homes, which gives them peace of mind. In India, for example, the price of an average house has risen exponentially over the past few decades, and the same trend is predicted for the future.
However, I think it is an unwelcome development as this dramatically reduces people’s choices. Most people take out loans to build their houses, and monthly payments on a house loan must be made no matter what, or the person may have their home taken from them. This relentless pressure to pay on time means that people stay in steady jobs rather than taking the risk of starting a new career, becoming an entrepreneur, or travelling the world, and they may even miss once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. For instance, despite having more experience, mature adults usually do not open start-ups, even if they want to, as they are constantly worried about the bills and loans they have to pay.
In conclusion, owning property will always be the preferred option for those who view real estate as a secure long-term investment. Nevertheless, I consider it to be a negative development because it takes away the freedom to make our own life choices.
