Answer of Cambridge Book 14 Test 4 Academic Writing Task 2ย ย

These days, a number of people prefer to run their own businesses rather than work for organizations. This is because they want to have freedom in their work. However, the possible drawbacks are more responsibilities and financial instability.

Several people choose to be self-employed now because they can work how they want to work. Modern people tend to be more individualistic and prioritize work-life balance than working people in the past, so they often do not like having to fit in with a particular schedule or answer to an employer. For example, nowadays, many writers have changed from working for publications to freelance writers, so they can write and publish any news whenever they have time.

Nevertheless, the chief difficulty that running a business can present is that people will be responsible for more tasks. This is because, as entrepreneurs, they will be in charge of everything happening in their businesses, including human resources, marketing and finances, and their success or failure depends on this. Another drawback is that self-employed people are more likely to have irregular incomes. The incomes of these people mostly come from their profits, which depend on market fluctuations, and if the market declines, the demands of consumers will be negatively affected, resulting in them earning less money, and sometimes, they even have to bear losses. For instance, due to the pandemic, the global market has slumped. Therefore, many entrepreneurs are facing financial difficulties.

In conclusion, many people are now deciding to work for themselves because they want more freedom in their work life, but the disadvantages are that they have to shoulder more responsibilities and may have unstable incomes.
