Answer of Cambridge Book 13 Test 1 Academic Writing Task 2

It is argued that residing in a country where one must communicate in a different language makes social and practical life challenging. I completely agree with this statement because the language barrier leads to communication problems and makes it difficult for people to seek employment.

One of the main reasons people face social challenges when living in a nation where they must speak a foreign language is the difficulty in communicating with others. When foreigners cannot converse in the native language of the place they currently reside in, this language barrier often makes communication difficult, hindering their ability to make friends easily. As a result, this can lead to social isolation. For example, many Indian students living in shared accommodations at Canadian college campuses with other students struggle to communicate effectively due to language issues and feel isolated.

Another reason people face problems while residing in a country where they must speak a foreign language is the difficulty in finding employment. Many international companies prefer to employ individuals who can fluently communicate in the local language, so foreign residents face challenges when applying for jobs due to their inability to speak that language fluently. Despite having the required qualifications, these people often have to work in unskilled jobs and are underpaid. Many corporations in China, for instance, hire employees fluent in Chinese to communicate effectively with their investors, leaving non-native speakers, despite their qualifications, unable to secure such jobs.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that living in a different nation where people have to speak a language other than their mother tongue causes problems such as communication issues and unemployment.
