Answer of Cambridge Book 8 Test 4 Academic Writing Task 2ย ย

In some parts of the world, people are gaining weight on average, and their fitness and health levels are deteriorating. The main causes of this phenomenon are poor dietary choices and a sedentary lifestyle, and possible solutions are eating healthy food and exercising regularly.

One of the reasons for weight gain is terrible food choices. That is to say that people are consuming more fast food, which contains a high amount of fat and sugar, and these excess nutrients get stored in their bodies as calories, consequently increasing their weight. Another major factor is living a sedentary lifestyle. Often, individuals do not need to be physically active to complete their work, as most work can be completed mechanically. They just sit and work or relax in one place for a long time, getting overweight. In India, for example, IT professionals often have to sit in front of a computer throughout the day, so they are more often than not heavier than those workers who engage in physical labour.

A plausible solution to the problems associated with eating fast food is to eat healthy food. Food such as green vegetables and fruits are low in calories but rich in nutritional value, and eating them, rather than junk food, can improve peopleโ€™s health. Moreover, people can do exercise to get healthier. If they are physically active, they can burn extra calories, which helps them shed extra weight and live a more fulfilling life. For instance, individuals who go to the gym 5 to 6 days a week are fitter than those who prefer to lie on their couches instead.

In conclusion, the principal reasons average weight around the world is on the rise are that people tend to eat imbalanced food such as burgers, pizzas, and crisps and lead a sedentary lifestyle. To address these issues, people can eat a balanced, healthier diet and live an active lifestyle.
