WRITING TASK 1

You should spend 20 minutes on this task.

You are unhappy about a plan to make your local airport bigger and increase the number of flights. You live near the airport.

Write a letter to your local newspaper. In your letter:

  • explain where you live
  • describe the problem
  • give reasons why you do not want this development

You should write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Answer-

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction via your esteemed newspaper regarding the extension plans of our local airport and the increment in the number of flights.

I reside in Modal Town, which is only 2 kilometres away from the airport. I have been living here since my birth, and it is one of the well-developed, posh areas of the city, and we have all the amenities here, such as parks, complexes and restaurants.

The people of my block are already going through so much trouble because we live close to the airport. First of all, passengers usually pass through our area to reach the airport, so usually, there are frequent traffic jams. Moreover, the noise does not let us sleep peacefully at night, and because of the loud noise of 2 or 3 flights every night at around midnight and 3 am, I wake up startled. Finally, the loud noise coming from aeroplanes harms people’s hearing power, especially children and older people.

I do not want this plan to be executed because for this plan to be implemented, they would need to clear the garden we have just within walking distance from our society. If this happens, we will have no place to spend our leisure time and do exercise. In addition, more flights would mean more people coming and going through our residential area, and we may not be able to sleep at night if there are more flights.

Thank you for your consideration.

Yours faithfully,
Ryan Reynolds
