Answer to IELTS Cambridge Book 14 Test 3 General Writing Task 3
It is argued by a few individuals that the principal way to achieve happiness is by possessing a substantial amount of money. The belief that wealth brings joy is because it allows people to acquire whatever they desire. However, other factors that can significantly contribute to happiness are good general health and strong family relationships.
Possessing a lot of money can make people happy because it enables them to buy everything they want. That is to say that every luxury in this world comes with a price tag, and when people can afford whatever they desire without worrying about the cost, it brings emotional satisfaction and enhances their happiness. They do not experience dissatisfaction or regret in their personal lives just because they cannot buy something they want. For instance, wealthy individuals with substantial sums of money often find contentment by purchasing luxury houses and cars.
In addition to wealth, good health is another crucial factor in achieving happiness. When people are healthy, they can fully enjoy life and engage in activities that bring them joy because no amount of money can buy health, and without health, they will not be able to enjoy any luxury in life. Furthermore, maintaining healthy relationships with family members is essential for happiness. Supportive and encouraging family members can help individuals stay positive even during challenging times, as sometimes, all a person needs is a shoulder to lean on when they hit rock bottom. For example, if one spouse loses their job, the other can provide emotional support and empathy, which can significantly lift their spirits, helping them pull through that difficult time.
In conclusion, while owning a lot of money can make people happy by providing the possibility to buy anything they long for, other factors, such as being in good health and having strong family relationships, can bring happiness, too.
