Answer of Cambridge Book 3 Test 2 Academic Writing Task 2

The traditional way of living and skills go extinct as a country’s technology prospers; therefore, some argue that trying and preserving them is not logical. I completely agree with this statement because work can be done faster mechanically, and old ways of life may become costlier.

The primary reason I am in favour of not saving traditional skills is that machines save time of people. This is because people used to do all their work by hand, often taking too much time to complete. However, with the advancement of technology, most work can be done with the help of machines and unlike humans, machines do not get tired, so they can keep on working round the clock to complete work quicker, and they are also more precise than humans. For example, carving wood or stone with a chisel and hammer takes significantly more time and effort than carving them with machines.

Another reason to consider is that traditional ways of life may become more expensive after technology improves in a country. Due to globalisation, which comes along with tech advancements, how people dress or what they eat around the globe will be available at cheaper prices because of their mass production. In contrast, traditional dresses or handicrafts may cost more because they are produced on a small scale and may not be in demand outside that region. In Japan, for instance, the kimono costs significantly more than Western dresses, so it is worn only on special occasions like marriage ceremonies or family gatherings, and men and women wear suits and jeans regularly as they are cost-effective.

In conclusion, I fully agree that there is no use in saving old skills and ways to live when technology advances because these skills take more time to complete any work, and people may not be able to afford traditional ways of life.
