Question: Some people believe that professionals, such as doctors and engineers, should be required to work in the country where they did their training. Others believe that they should be free to work in another country if they wish. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Answer of Cambridge Book 17 Test 3 Academic Writing Task 2
Some argue that professionals, like doctors and engineers, should be coerced into working in the country where they underwent their professional training, while others consider that they should be free to work anywhere in the world. Although a few think that professional workers owe a debt to the country they trained in because of the money their governments invest in them, I believe these people should be free to work wherever they can earn more.
On the one hand, some often claim it is only fair that highly-trained individuals should work in the place where they were trained because they usually receive considerable government funding. Governments fund tuition for essential courses through scholarships because they are crucial for a country’s development but are often too expensive for many talented individuals to afford. Therefore, authorities do this to obtain the best talent’s services. For example, the U.K. Government spends millions of pounds on training junior doctors through university tuition fees and on-the-job training. However, I think that becoming a STEM graduate requires more than just money; it demands hard work and dedication, and forcing them to stay may halt their overall progression and stifle their creativity.
On the other hand, others argue that these skilled professionals should be free to choose where to work to maximize their earnings. These professionals are in high demand globally and can command much higher salaries by moving abroad because some skills are in more demand in certain regions. If they were stopped from doing so, it would be a considerable monetary disadvantage for that individual. Petroleum engineers, for instance, can make hundreds of thousands of dollars more in oil-rich countries, such as Saudi Arabia, than Europe. As everyone has the fundamental right to pursue their interests, I believe individuals should be allowed to work wherever they prefer.
In conclusion, while some say certified people have to work where they were trained due to significant government investment, I would argue it is more important that they should have the right to choose to work in regions that offer the highest value for their skills.
