Answer of Cambridge Book 13 Test 3 Academic Writing Task 2

A few individuals believe that History is a most important subject, while others consider that, at present, subjects such as Science and Technology are far more crucial than History. Although History can teach valuable lessons, I believe that studying Science and Technology is far more beneficial as it opens up more job opportunities.

On the one hand, certain people are of the opinion that valuable lessons can be learnt from studying History. That is to say that History offers context about the things humans did in the past and errors made by them, and understanding these patterns can equip us with the required knowledge to avoid repeating such mistakes. As a result, learners can become successful and enhance their knowledge as well. For example, studying the causes and consequences of World War II can provide insights into current international relations and conflicts. However, I would argue that focusing on the future is more important than dwelling on the past.

On the other hand, others advocate that Science and Technology are more crucial subjects than History because they can significantly enhance a student’s future. To explain, today’s digital world relies heavily on innovations and gadgets that have made life easier, and the way new technologies are introduced, people with science backgrounds or technical skills will be in high demand. The global shift towards renewable energy, for instance, will create more jobs in the future as this technology is seen as a cleaner and safer alternative to non-renewable energy sources to save the planet. Since living a fulfilling life is the ultimate goal, I think that focusing more on Science and Technology than History will bring added benefits.

In conclusion, even though some consider History to be a key subject because it may teach valuable life lessons, in my opinion, prioritizing core subjects like Science and Technology can be more fruitful, as they lead to high-paying jobs with a better future.
