Question: Some people think that all university students should study whatever they like. Others believe that they should only be allowed to study subjects that will be useful in the future, such as those related to science and technology. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Answer of Cambridge Book 10 Test 2 Academic Writing Task 2
Some argue that all students in universities should be free to study the subject they are passionate about, while others think that they have to focus only on subjects deemed helpful for the future, such as science and technology. Although learning these practical subjects is important for securing a good job and salary, I believe that pursuing whatever subject they favour leads to greater progress.
Some believe studying science and technology at third-level education helps students find high-paying jobs easily. That is to say, modern workplaces often require people with up-to-date technological knowledge to enhance work quality and stay competitive in the market, and for this, they are ready to pay higher salaries to beat their competition. For instance, many engineers and healthcare workers earn more lucrative salaries than those studying philosophy or social justice. However, I disagree with this view because forcing students to study subjects they are not passionate about can lead to disengagement and a lack of motivation, ultimately affecting their performance, creativity and well-being.
On the other hand, others believe university students should be free to study the subjects they like because they will advance more in their careers. If they are fond of a particular subject, they will be eager to learn everything about it in-depth, and this passion will encourage students to push their limits, be creative, and strive for improvement, making them proficient in it. For example, numerous successful entrepreneurs and artists have thrived because they pursued their passions rather than conforming to societal norms. Since this leads to personal fulfilment, I consider letting students decide what they prefer to study is more beneficial.
To conclude, despite the fact that courses in science and technology can offer good career prospects and income to college students, in my opinion, studying subjects they prefer is better because this leads to tremendous success in their chosen fields.
